The CMS Lead Tungstate Electromagnetic Calorimeter
نویسنده
چکیده
The CERN LHC will open a new regime in the exploration of fundamental interactions. Of central importance to these studies will be the precise measurement of high energy electrons and photons. The CMS experiment therefore incorporates a high resolution electromagnetic calorimeter comprising 76000 lead tungstate crystals, covering almost 4pi, and capable of operating reliably for ten years in a very hostile environment. The detector design is presented, together with beam measurements demonstrating that the goal for energy resolution of better than 0.5 Presented at EPS2007,July 19-25, 2007,Manchester,United Kingdom

متن کاملMeasurements of Lead Tungstate crystals behaviour under irradiation for the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter at the LHC
Lead Tungstate crystals will be used as calorimetric medium in high energy physics at CERN, in a particularly hostile radiation environment. Methods of testing their behaviour under irradiation are discussed here and are illustrated by some R&D results. Presented at 5th European Conference on Radiation and its Effects on Components and Systems, (Fontevraud, France, September 1999) For the CMS C...
متن کاملMeasurements of PbWO4 crystals behaviour under irradiation
Lead Tungstate crystals for the CMS detector at LHC have to withstand severe levels of radiation. Presented here are measurement techniques and results on crystal behaviour under gamma irradiation from tests at ETH/PSI in conditions similar to what is expected during operation of the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter. Presented at International Workshop on Lead Tungstate crystals, Rome, Italy, Oc...
متن کاملSpecifications for Lead Tungstate Crystals Preproduction
After 3 years of extensive R&D the Bogoroditsk Techno-Chemical Plant in Russia is ready to enter a preproduction phase where 6000 Lead Tungstate crystals will be produced for the CMS electromagnetic calorimeter during a period of about 18 months. Although this is a demonstration test for the mass production, these crystals will have to be installed in the calorimeter and have therefore to compl...
